What is Breeding?

Like in the base Pokemon Games, breeding is a mechanic where two compatible pokemon can be placed within a Pasture Block to produce a Pokemon Egg based on both parents. You can hatch this egg via walking which will hatch into a Pokemon. There is loads of benefits for breeding for Pokemon like inheriting IVs, Abilities, Natures, Increased Shiny chances plus many more.

While most of the mechanics is the exact same for how it's set up in the base games, there are a couple changes to better fit with Cobblemon so it's ideal to read through it all if you don't know 100% how it all works on Cobblemon.

How to Breed Pokemon

Pasture Block

To initially get started with breeding, you first need to craft a Pasture Block. This is a easy recipe to craft as shown below:

Recipe: 5x Any Wood Plank, 1x PC, 2x Wheat, 1x Hopper

Once you have created a Pasture Block, you can go ahead and place it down within your realm. You can place up to 16 pokemon within the Pasture Block and all these will be walking in the area around where you placed it. Unfortunately you will only be able to gain one egg at a time with the block unless you create multiple of them within your realm.

Egg Groups

The next step is to get two compatible pokemon to breed with each other via egg groups. For two pokemon to breed with each other, they need to breed with compatible egg groups. You can find a list of all these below:

Unable to Breed

To find out which Pokemon fits under a certain egg group, you can use the following link to determine this: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_Pok%C3%A9mon_by_National_Pok%C3%A9dex_number

Ditto

Now Ditto is a little bit different in that it can breed with any egg group (excl Undiscovered and itself) meaning it is a fantastic addition to your gameplay if you plan on breeding a fair bit. As long as the other pokemon is able to be bred, then you can use Ditto to breed for a egg regardless of the gender of the Pokemon in question.

Breeding

Once you have both a Pasture Block and two compatible (Male and Female) Pokemon, you can place these within the Pasture block and wait until you see a egg appear at the back of the pasture block. Breeding is attempted every 1 minute so you could get it within a minute, or it could take a couple minutes to obtain a egg.

NOTE: You will only get a egg while being within your realm. Do not place a Pasture Block down within the wilds so you do not lose it.

You can see an example of what this looks like with the screenshot shown below:

From there all you need to do is Right Click onto the Pasture Block to recieve your egg. This will be placed within your inventory and you can hover over the egg to find out information relating to the Pokemon like the name of the pokemon, how many steps to hatch, steps accumulated and so on.

How to Hatch Pokemon Egg

Hatching the egg is incredibly easy! All you need to do is place the egg within your inventory and walk around with it. Each step will take away from the count you'll be able to see on the egg.

As soon as the count reaches 0 you will be able to do Shift + Right Click while holding the egg and it will hatch and it will be sent directly into your party or PC.

Breeding for Inherited Stats, Moves, Forms and Abilities/Natures

One of the best things with Breeding Pokemon is that you can push down certain abilities, natures, IVs and obtain special egg moves via breeding.

STATS : Only 3 random IVs stats will be pushed down to the baby pokemon (if no item is used) with the other 3 stats being randomized. You can use Destiny Knot and Battle Items to get more IVs/specific IVs pushed down instead. You can see more about these items within the next section of this guide.

MOVES : Pokemon that are hatched will start out with all moves they can learn at level 1, but if both parents know a move they can learn via lvl up then the egg will inherit this move. This is true with egg moves as if either parent knows a egg move then it will be pushed down to the baby pokemon.

NATURES : You are able to breed down a specific nature from a parent by giving it a Everstone. If you give both parents a Everstone then which nature the Pokemon will have is randomized between the two natures. Natures changed via mints will not be breed down the new nature to the baby pokemon.

ABILITY : If you are trying to breed down a specific ability, then it's ideal that you breed with a ditto to ensure that the egg gains the ability. Otherwise you will want to breed with a female parent as you have a 80% chance for their ability (20% for it to be random) to be pushed down and a 60% chance for it to be pushed down if it's a hidden ability. This makes female pokemon incredibly valuable for breeders to have especially when working with Hidden Abilities. You can't breed a Male with a Hidden Ability with a Non-Ditto Pokemon as the ability will not be inherited by the baby Pokemon. If neither parent have a Hidden Ability, then you can not gain the Hidden Ability via breeding.

FORMS : Due to the server not having any regions which in the main games affects, players can't have forms of the region it is in. Instead, Pokemon will inherit the regional form of the mother or non-ditto parent. Alternatively you can use a everstone on the non-ditto parent to gain the form instead.

Items used for Breeding

Here you can find a selection of items that have effects for breeding which players will find useful to be using.

Destiny Knot

You can give a Pokemon a Destiny Knot to one of your Pokemon to Hold in which this will select 5 random IV stats from both parents [not just the Pokemon Holding the item] which will be inherited to the Pokemon Egg. This means if you have IV stats that are 31, if that specific stats is selected them that will be inherited into the egg. The other IV stat that isn't being selected will be randomized.

There is no way to select what IVs are chosen with the Destiny Knot.

Power Items

Power Items [Power Weight, Power Bracer, Power Belt, Power Lens, Power Band, Power Anklet] can be given to the pokemon being bred to give a specific IV stat corresponding to the item used. Below is a table of what each of the items will pass over:

Power Item
Stat

Power Weight

HP

Power Bracer

Attack

Power Belt

Defense

Power Lens

Special Attack

Power Band

Special Defense

Power Anklet

Speed

This means if you give a Power Anklet to Parent #1 and a Power Weight to Parent #2 then you will gain the respective Speed and HP stat corresponding to the parent stats.

Mirror Herb

If you want to learn a egg move to a respective Pokemon and you have another Pokemon who has this move then you can give the Mirror Herb to the pokemon that you wish to learn it and throw both of these within the Pasture Block. The pokemon will then be able to learn this move without needing to finishing the breeding process.

Everstone

You are able to breed down a specific nature from a parent by giving it a Everstone. If you give both parents a Everstone then which nature the Pokemon will have is randomized between the two natures. Natures changed via mints will not be breed down the new nature to the baby pokemon.

Alternatively with everstones you can use them to breed for specific regional forms by giving it to the non-ditto parent while breeding to gain the specific form.

Shiny Hunt Methods via Breeding

Masuda Method

Masuda Method is a way for players to have increased shiny chances for Pokemon that comes out of eggs. Unlike in the games where you need one Pokemon parent from another game language (i.e. English with Japanese), all you need is a pokemon with a different OT for this to work.

METHOD: Place your Pokemon that has your OT and another Pokemon of choice with a different players OT for the masuda method to work.

For just using Masuda Method for breeding it increases chances from 1/4096 to a whopping 1/585!

Crystal Method

Crystal Method is another way for players to increase the chances of shinies from eggs using shinies they already own! If at least one of the Pokemon being bred is already shiny, then you will gain increased offs for getting a shiny from your egg! Using two shiny pokemon will not increase your odds further, it's only affected by one parent being shiny.

METHOD: Place a Pokemon that is shiny with another Pokemon into the Pasture block to get the increased chances.

For just using Crystal Method for breeding it increases chances from 1/4096 to a whopping 1/1365!

Combined Methods

Here's where you can get the best odds for Shiny Hunting via Eggs. If both of your Pokemon fit the Masuda and Crystal methods of shiny hunting, then both of the odds will stack and you will get the best odds for shiny hunting via eggs!

METHOD: Place one Pokemon that has your OT and another Pokemon of choice with a different players OT with one of these pokemon also being Shiny for the odds to be stacked!

For just using the Masuda Methods and Crystal Method for breeding it will increases chances from 1/4096 to a whopping 1/455!
