Intro to Fishing in Cobblemon

Fishing functions similarly to Vanilla Minecraft in that you cast your rod, wait for the bobber to be pulled underwater, then reel in your catch.

However, unlike Vanilla gameplay, Cobblemon introduces exclusive Fishing Rods that allow you to obtain Pokemon and special items. These rods can be further customized with a variety of effects and enhancements, influenced by the rod you’re using as well as the bait attached. Together, these features create a deeper and more rewarding fishing experience.

How to start Fishing in Cobblemon

To start fishing in Cobblemon there are a few things you need to collect and craft. These are as follows:

Poke Rods

The primary item required for fishing is a Poke Rod. These can be easily crafted by combining a standard Fishing Rod, any type of Poke Ball, and a Smithing Upgrade (Poke Rod Upgrade).

Placing these components into a Smithing Table will create a Poke Rod corresponding to the Poke Ball used.

To obtain a Smithing Upgrade [Poke Rod Upgrade] you can find them within Shipwreck Cove and Fishing Boat structures as well as from fishing. You are also able to purchase it from the Poke Mart via /shop.

Pokeballs

Pokeballs do not provide any direct bonuses to your Poke Rod and are currently cosmetic only. Each Pokeball corresponds to its own unique Poke Rod variant, which can then be further enhanced through the use of baits and other upgrades.

Be sure to choose the rod design you like most and customize it to suit your fishing style, you have 48 unique rods to choose from!

Poke Baits

Bait can be attached to your Poke Rod to grant additional bonuses while fishing. To apply bait, simply drag it over your Poke Rod in your inventory and Right Click. The bait will automatically attach to the rod, and you’ll be notified of which bait is currently equipped.

Once applied, the bait will remain on the Poke Rod until it is used during a successful reel in. If you wish to remove it beforehand, you can do so by pressing Right Click on the Poke Rod in your inventory again to retrieve the bait.

Each bait provides its own unique effects. A full list of compatible baits can be found below:

There is a item known as Poke Bait, which can be crafted through cooking and is capable of absorbing up to three effects at once from Fishing Baits, making it an ideal choice for efficient and rewarding fishing experience.

To create Poke Bait, combine any three Fishing Baits with a Honey Bottle, Brown Mushroom, and Wheat in a Cooking Pot placed over a Campfire.
