What is Riding Pokemon?

Did you know that not only can you fight and train with your Pokemon, but there are a select few that you can actually ride on?

Whether you're climbing a snowy mountain on your Mamoswine, riding across the ocean on your Lapras, or soaring through the skies on your Dragonite, travelling has never been easier. Make sure to take full advantage of these optionsโ€”especially when you need to get from point A to point B quickly.

How Can I ride my Pokemon?

Riding Pokemon is incredibly easy and there is no need for a Saddle like normal mobs.

For any compatible pokemon all you need to do is throw out your Pokemon via R and press Shift + Right Click which will bring up a circle bar which has different options you can choose. You want to click on the option for Ride which has the symbol of a Saddle. You can see this in the GIF below:

Once you have selected Ride, you will now be on the back of the selected Pokemon you are riding. From there it's just as simple as using WASD to move around alongside using your mouse to point in the direction you wish to travel. You can press R to dismount once youโ€™re finished riding your mount.

How pokemon travel though will vary due to the different types of ride pokemon there are. This in turn will have an affect on their controls so it's something to take note for the pokemon you wish to traverse on as you can use the list below to find specifics on how they work.

What are the different riding types?

Each pokemon has their own type of riding style which will change how the Pokemon will act when riding. Some of the pokemon will have multiple riding styles relating to Land, Water and Air [i.e. Dragonite has a Riding Style in each Category compared to Venusaur which only has a Land riding sytle]. Certain pokemon will end up being more useful in certain environments compared to others.

Here is a list of all the riding styles:

Land

Standard

Similar to standard Minecraft riding mechanics, this feature follows the familiar riding style players already know. Pokรฉmon can be ridden much like other rideable mobs such as horses or pigs, allowing you to control movement by looking in your desired direction and using the WASD keys to navigate. Standard rides are also capable of sprinting; however, sprinting is limited by a stamina system.

Vehicle

Vehicle mounts function similarly to boats, but are designed for land-based travel. This allows riders to freely look around without affecting their direction of movement. Instead, directional keys are used to steer the Pokรฉmon as you travel. Itโ€™s important to note that vehicle mounts have a wider turning radius than the standard riding style; however, by holding crouch while turning left or right, this radius can be tightenedโ€”allowing skilled riders to perform controlled drifts.

Water

Boat

These mounts operate almost identically to vanilla Minecraft boats. Movement is controlled entirely using the directional keys, while your camera view has no influence on your direction of travel. This allows you to freely look around without altering your mountโ€™s path.

Submarine

These mounts function similarly to vehicle mounts, with the key distinction being their ability to operate on water. In addition to surface travel, these mounts allow you to dive beneath the waves and traverse underwater environments with ease.

Dolphin

These mounts behave much like submarine mounts, with the key distinction being their ability to leap out of the waterโ€”much like a dolphinโ€”adding a dynamic and stylish element to aquatic traversal.

Air

Bird

These mounts can fly and hover while in the air, giving you solid control over aerial movement. You move in the direction youโ€™re looking, with the left and right keys letting you strafe side to side. The up and down keys control how you rise or drop while flying.

They also support an elytra-style flight mode, where your movement is affected by both where youโ€™re looking and the keys you press, making flying feel faster and more dynamic.

Jet

Jet mounts are flying mounts that move more like vanilla boats. Your forward movement isnโ€™t affected by where youโ€™re looking, so youโ€™re free to look around while riding, while the left and right keys handle turning.

Unlike bird-style mounts, jet mounts canโ€™t hover, but they make up for it with much higher speeds. You can gain or lose altitude using the jump and crouch keys, keeping you in control while flying fast.

UFO

UFO-style mounts are flying mounts that can hover in the air and move freely in any direction, much like creative or spectator flight. That said, theyโ€™re generally on the slower side, and flying above their maximum height [set by their jump height stat] will start to drain stamina.

Rocket

These mounts act very similar to UFO mounts, with the key difference being that you'll be able to fly forwards at very high speeds!
