What is a Catch Combo?
Catch Combo is a mechanic where repeatedly catching the same Pokémon species in a row builds a streak. You'll be familiar with this if you've played the Let's Go games on the Nintendo Switch. The combo increases as long as you successfully catch that species without catching anything else.
As the combo grows, it provides several benefits such as:
Higher shiny odds for that species
More frequent spawns of the combo Pokémon
The combo breaks if:
You catch a different species of Pokemon
The Pokémon flees
You defeat the Pokémon
You manually run from the encounter
How to build a Catch Combo?
Building your catch combo is incredibly easy to do, as well as keeping track of it! After successfully catching two Pokémon of the same species, your combo will begin and be announced in Public Chat. Each additional successful catch will update your current combo, ensuring you are always informed of your progress.
You can also check your active Catch Combo at any time by using the /catchcombo or /combo commands, which will display your current streak in Public Chat.
Be mindful though as your combo will reset if you catch a different Pokémon, flee from a battle, the Pokémon escapes the encounter, or if the Pokémon is defeated. When a combo is broken, you will receive a notification in Public Chat.
Catch Combos can be built up to a maximum of 60. Reaching this cap means no further bonuses will be gained to spawn rates or shiny odds beyond that point.
What are the benefits for having a Catch Combo?
As stated above, building a Catch Combo will not only increases the spawn rate of the selected Pokémon, but will also significantly improves its shiny encounter chance. The increased spawn frequency can also be leveraged to hunt for desirable abilities or high IV combinations.
Mastering this mechanic offers an excellent opportunity to earn Pokécoins on the server, as targeting high-demand Pokémon can prove both rewarding and profitable.
How does the shiny odds work for Catch Combo?
Catch Combos provide an additional and highly effective method for shiny hunting on the server, allowing players to target specific shiny Pokémon providing they are obtainable in the wild.
As your Catch Combo increases, your shiny odds for that specific Pokémon will gradually improve. These odds reach their maximum effectiveness at a combo of 60, which represents the highest possible shiny chance. Maintaining the combo is crucial, however; if it is broken before a shiny is found, the chain must be rebuilt from the beginning.
At a maximum Catch Combo, shiny odds are dramatically improved from the standard 1/4096 to an impressive 1/520!
