## What are Z Moves?

**Z Moves** are special forms of certain moves introduced in *Pokémon Sun and Moon* for the Nintendo 3DS. By using a **Mega Keystone** and the corresponding Z Crystal, a Pokémon can utilise the alternate form of the move during battle, granting an increase in power, and often includes additional effects.

**Z Moves** can come in two forms, either being a generic move, or a specialist move. Generic moves can be used by *any* Pokémon, so long as they have learnt a move corresponding to the typing of the crystal. Whereas specialist moves can only be used by a singular Pokémon, and require they know a specific move (often their signature) to utilise it.

### Utilising Z Moves within a Battle

Z Moves during battles functions slightly differently from the standard method. To begin, ensure that you have your **Mega Keystone** equipped.

Once these requirements are met, enter a battle and select **Fight**. On the battle screen, a new **Z Move icon** will appear. You may activate this option alongside your chosen move for that turn. When selected, your Pokemon will execute the selected move.

## Frequently Asked Questions \[FAQ]

**Q \~ Do I need to download a extra mod in order to access Z Moves?**

**A \~** *No! The only mod needed for the server is for Pixelmon, after that any content pushed into the server will not require any mod to be installed. Z Moves by nature are already integrated into the official mod.*

**Q \~ Are we able to use Z Moves within gym battles?**

**A \~** *Yes, we have no clause against this currently so you're free to use Z Moves within Gyms. In the future Gyms may also include Z Moves Pokemon you will have to fight for extra challenge!*

**Q \~ Can we use more than one Z Move within a battle?**

**A \~** *No, within battles you will be restricted to a single Z Move.*

**Q \~ Are all Z Moves live in the server?**

**A \~** *Yes, all Z Moves from the mainline games have already been implemented and are fully functional.*

**Q \~ Are there any custom Z Moves in the server?**

**A \~** *At this time we have no plans to introduce any custom Z Moves into the server. We will look into this in the future once we have left BETA and going off player feedback, but yeah currently have no custom Z Moves in the server.*

**Q \~ Can I access the Mega Keystone recipe within JEI?**

**A \~** *No, the Mega Keystone is not a physical item you posses in your inventory, and instead lives within the gimmicks menu by the side of your Pokemon. Due to this you cannot pass a Mega Keystone to other users to use either.*

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://wiki.mmorealms.gg/pixelmon-wiki/general-guides/complete-guide-to-z-moves.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
