## What is the chat?

Whilst hopefully not a surprise, the chat is a base Minecraft feature that allows users to communicate with everyone else who is online. The typical use is for public chats where any player can join in, along with command usage.

{% hint style="info" %}
Whilst our server is comprised of individual and separated servers, like the Spawns, Wilds, Gyms and Realms, messages sent through the chat are visible by all currently online users, no matter where there character may be located.

## Features

That being said, the chat on the server has received a wide range of additional features which are not clearly outlined, where this guide serves to provide information about each of these features, so that you may make the best use out of them to express yourself however you wish!

### Messages

Probably the most well known feature, you are able to participate in private messages between yourself and another player, where you both are the only users who can see such messages. Whether this be talking about something private you do not want other players to see, or just keeping personal discussion out of public chat, there are countless reasons you may wish to privately message another.

To send another player a private message, you use `/msg {User} {Message}` , e.g. `/msg SleeepyPorcelain Hello, how are you?` as shown below. Then to reply the other player can either use `/msg` also, or instead replace it with `/r {Message}` which will send a private message back to whoever last sent them one.

<figure><img src="https://1136757732-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FaGML4Zd5tMQdGofzRFUX%2Fuploads%2F1tUE2l0Hbtya47WnsRHF%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=295e4be1-0be0-4cd6-be61-dddc167dcb96" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Private Message example</p></figcaption></figure>

### Languages

We as a server are open to players globally, which means we will inherently receive players joining who speak different languages. This may cause difficulties for some players not being able to understand other messages, otherwise being considered spam. To ensure the chat you see as a player remains relevant to yourself, we are implementing different languages.&#x20;

Upon first joining the server, you will be placed into a language group based on the region of where your network connection is based, so English speaking players will be placed with other English users. Do note if you are not happy with the assigned language, you are more than welcome to swap to another through use of the `/language` command, e.g. `/language Spanish`.

### Chat Games

Chat games are a range of trivia based questions that appear randomly through chat, where the first player to provide a correct answer will be awarded a prize! There exists a wide variety of questions, however they are all based on general Pokemon knowledge. If you know the answer, all you need to do is send it via public chat, and if correct the Chat Games system will handle is appropriately.

### Emojis

Much like other platforms, if you would like to express yourself through emojis, you most certainly can. The server has a range of emojis available, a few standard as you would find in any typical emoji list, and a few others based on familiar references.

<figure><img src="https://1136757732-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FaGML4Zd5tMQdGofzRFUX%2Fuploads%2FVTkCPzlB82zc9MO52ciI%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=7fc3425e-aa1a-444b-8424-884d53d6c665" alt=""><figcaption><p>Emoji usage in chat</p></figcaption></figure>

To view the full list of emojis available, you can use the `/emojis` command in-game. This list will include all emojis, both free and paid so you can review the options and have a look at what you've claimed.

<figure><img src="https://1136757732-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FaGML4Zd5tMQdGofzRFUX%2Fuploads%2FSW9uXYUs12TXjP22PHKc%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=e3153111-3f62-467d-b4d6-e4a287e1df3d" alt="" width="365"><figcaption><p>Emojis GUI</p></figcaption></figure>

If you see a new emoji you'd like, it's as simple as clicking on it for purchase, in which it can then immediately be used in chat.

### Tags

Another way to customise your chats is through the use of Chat Tags. These act like titles that are displayed beside your username just before your message, offering more ways to make your message stand out. Each tag has its own conditions to be unlocked, all of which can be previewed within the `/tags` menu before equipping, so explore your options and pick what you believe best suits yourself.

### Item Display

Finally if you'd like to show off anything you've collected, whether that be a specific Pokemon you've been hunting for a while, or a rare item you've finally managed to get a hold of, you can do so through the chat using Item Displays. Other users can hover over this display to view more details about the displayed item or Pokemon.

{% hint style="info" %}
Note this works in both public chat and private messages
{% endhint %}

If you'd like to show off a Pokemon, you can either use:

* `{pokemonX}` to show off a specific Pokemon, where X is replaced with the slot number as shown below.
* `{party}` to show off all Pokemon currently in your party.

<figure><img src="https://1136757732-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FaGML4Zd5tMQdGofzRFUX%2Fuploads%2FpXapQKfQD4TthLWqioVS%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=ffc50e51-5692-4839-9c98-cb4731445e8a" alt=""><figcaption><p>Pokemon Display</p></figcaption></figure>

If you'd like to show off an item, you can use:

* `{item}` whilst holding the item.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://wiki.mmorealms.gg/cobblemon-wiki/general-guides/a-complete-overview-to-chat-features.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
